Wow, what a long time since I've updated this page!

It has been nearly three years since I have touched this page and it is about time. Since the last update in January of 2005 we have added two lodge rooms, remodeled the giftshop and lounge area and are now working on cabin number three. Most of the current page will be about number three but I will try to throw in a few photos and updates about some other things as we go along.

View of Main Lodge and Cabin number 3 in the Late 1930's

Main Lodge and Cabin # 3 late 1930's

Cabin number three was one of the buildings that was originally a log cabin built in 1932/33. In the late 30's or early 40's it was rebuilt into the frame building that we have today. In the past 67 years not much has changed with the cabin. A few details have been updated but it is the same size and shape as when it was "new" in 1941. In January of 1995 we did completely remodel the bathroom, deck, and roof but we have not modified it since.

Nice 1950's color on that cabin!

In the late 1930's Sky-Vue was owned by the Winters. They were the ones who added the dining room to the main lodge and also converted the original log cabins to the frame buildings we have today.

The cabin has one of the best views on the property so despite its tiredness has still been a popular cabin. With this project we are turning our smallest two room cabin into a unit that will rival cabin number 5 or 6 in it's amenities and spaciousness. Hopefully the cabin will be done soon after the grand opening of the new Lake Fort Smith State Park. Stay tuned and watch the progress!

Several generations of paint schemes exposed at the start of the project.

(Including the 50's vivid green paint. You can almost see the Studebaker parked in front of the cabin!)

After we stripped off the brick wainscoat and aluminum siding we found the 1950's paint scheme. A number of areas were very badly damaged. We will be repairing all of the damage and expanding the cabin by almost 200 square feet.     Hi resolution link.

After several days of repairing the floor joists and tearing out the portion of the foundation that was being washed away we stabilized the corner of the building on a couple of 20 ton jacks and a couple of long 4 X 6's.

The northeast corner of cabin #3 hanging in the air, propped up on a couple of 20 ton jacks.       Jess showing the boys the controls on his backhoe.

On the 6th of January we poured the footer for the stem wall of # 3 and also started replacing the old brick sidewalk between the Main Lodge and cabin # 4. It had been very cold the previous two days, so we were glad that Friday morning turned out to be about 39 degrees and went up from there.

One of our employees, Elizabeth Bitzelberger, and our good friend Milton Morgan, puddling the concrete in front of cabin #4.                My friend Gary Baltrusch putting a finish on the footing for cabin #3.

Continue to more pictures and the rest of the story.

I hope you will enjoy the updates as we move along.
